Chiemsee

The Chiemsee also is named the „Bavarian Sea“ and is, with a area of 79,9 km2 the biggest lake in Bavaria. The lake has three islands: Herrenisland, Frauenisland and Krautisland.

The construction works at the Herrenisland, started in 1878 at the King´s castle Herrenchiemsee of Ludwig II., which should be a copy of castle of Versaille and which first was completed after the King´s death.

It was speculated that the lake, the place Chieming and the whole Chiemgau are called after the earl with the name „Chiemo“.

Starnberger See

Germany´s biggest lake is, caused by ist depth, the secondwatery at once. A walk at ist shores is an experience, especially at sunny weather, when the Alps setting established at the lake´s horizon in the south.

In the Starnberger See the legendary fairy tale king Ludwig II. lost his life, in the midst of today not settled circumstances.

Achensee

Tirol´s biggest lake forms the boarder between the Karwendelmountains and the Brandenberger Alps and is located 380 metres over the Inntal at Jenbach in Tirol.

Remarkable is the fact that it´s excellence water quality and ist water temperature don´t exceed, appropriate a mountain lake, the 20 degrees. It will also referred as the Tirol sea.

Pflegersee

Lake „Pflegersee“ is one of the most famous places of excursions above from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It is located pictorial at the foot of the Königsstand. The mountain inn „Pflegersee“ invites directly at the lake´s shore to stop for a bite to eat.

Ferchensees

Lake „Ferchensee“ is located in the southwest from Mittenwald and reaches more than 20 degrees water temperature in summer.

In summer a guesthouse and additional a kiosk with boat rental invites to stay. An urban bus drives regular to the lake.

Riegsee

One of the cleanest lakes in the upper Bavaria ist he Riegsee. It is heating itself very fast and has already got bathing temperature in May. Due to the fact that it is completely freezing up in winter about weeks, it is an eldorado for ice-skaters, bavarian curlers, ice-sailors.

Kochelsee

On the verge of the Bavarian Alps, belonging to the communities Schlehdorf and Kochel am See, there is the Kochelsee. It is connected through a hydroelectric power station, that also can be visited, with the upper seated Walchensee. The lake offers the opportunity to take a bath or to drive a boat, to orbit with the bicycle or per foot and to cross with a little boat, which connects the communities.

Walchensee

The Walchensee, one of the deepest and largest Alplakes in Germany, belongs to the community Kochel at the lake, in which community area the Kochelsee is partly located. Because of its beautiful location and its look, the Walchensee got repeatedly to a film location and to movies’ setting. Surfers and Sailors appreciate the lake especially because of its constant thermalwinds and use it extensive. Worth seeing is also the Walchensee power station, which connects the Kochelsee and the Walchensee.

Plansee / Heiterwangersee

In the Ammergauer Alps, there are the Plansee and the Heiterwangersee, both are connected with a 300 metre long channel. Both lakes have got a very good watercondition. Already imperator Maximilian I. appreciates the lake’s richness in fish and uses the surrounding lovely region for hunting expeditions. Today the lakes were used from the electric power station Reutte as a store and the waterlevel depressed in winter.
